The Asus also initially connected on the slower 2.4 GHz band on both computers, even though the 5 GHz signal is strong enough, so that is another reason I favor the Netgear as of now.

The Asus has 2019 drivers the Netgear drivers are from 2017, but they still work great. On the other laptop (either due to the Asus adapter, the router or perhaps something on the laptop itself), the Asus only reaches half speed (250 Mbps), even though it is the same room as the router, whereas the Netgear is still great (478 Mbps out of 480 max). ~360Mbps for the Ax201) thanks to their antenna designs / amplifiers no doubt. On one laptop (not near router nor satellites) both of the above USB adapters have great speeds, far better than the internal Intel AX201 Wifi 6 internal adapter (~460 Mbps for the above 2 adapters, out of the maximum 480 Mbps provisioned, vs. While waiting for the external Wifi 6 Dlink DWA-X1850 to be released, I bought the Netgear A7000 and Asus USB-AC68, both AC1900. Kind of tired trying things that don't work as advertised and don't seem to be supported. It seems like I just need to stick with the DWA-192 until other USB Wi-Fi 6 adapters start coming on the market. I did see an announcement on the D-Link DAW-X1850, but apparently that won't be available until 2H21. The nano-style adapters aren't viable because of distance and obstructions (i.e. Tried an unknown Chinese brand before I bought the D-Link and wasn't happy with it. Feels like a red flag.Ĭhecked Linksys web site - they don't advertise Wi-Fi adapters at all.Įverything else is questionable.

Their latest windows driver is 21 months old. You can't buy it from ASUS (they show only two PCIe Wi-Fi cards). Didn't investigate much, but their Windows drivers seem to suffer from the same issue as Netgear. Tried TP-Link Archer T9UH and had the same issue. Also false advertising to say it meets AC1300 speed when your Windows driver says it can't. That's a crap way to treat customers who buy a premium device. Known issue THAT THEY PUBLISH IN THEIR DRIVER RELEASE NOTES for the two latest versions. Tried Netgear Nighthawk A7000 because it's popular and generally gets good reviews, but it's only giving me 54 Mbps link speed. The only other product they offer is a nano-style (see below).

Been happy with the speed, as it tests above 50 Mbps in a poor signal part of the house, but I do need Wi-Fi to stay connected.ĭ-Link support says the DWA-192 is out-of-production and free support ended.

This doesn't happen with other devices on the router. It won't re-connect automatically, so I've got to un-plug it and plug it in again to get it to re-connect. It's been dropping its connection more frequently. Was looking for something to replace my D-Link DWA-192 USB Adapter.
